Cancer can interrupt school, work and plans for the future. Its effects can change everyday life long after treatment ends.

Rise Above Cancer Foundation supports youth and young adults (15-34) affected by cancer. We’re with you during treatment and afterwards, whether that means returning to school or work, finding a new direction or managing the lasting effects treatment can leave. You can also connect with other young people who have been through it.

We serve Hamilton, Burlington, the Greater Toronto Area and the Niagara region, with some programs open virtually to young people across Canada.

Founder’s Story: A Journey of Courage, Resilience, and Passion

Chengetai Nyamande was diagnosed with advanced nasopharyngeal cancer cancer at 16, and again at 28. Cancer interrupted her education, career and changed parts of her everyday life. Going back to school and planning her future, she learned how much help young people need beyond treatment, and how hard it can be to find. She started Rise Above Cancer Foundation so others have someone to turn to for what comes next.

Rise Kits

Comfort and practical items delivered through hospital care teams to youth and young adults beginning treatment.

Resilience Circle

Bi-weekly gatherings for people who are in treatment, recovering or living with long-term effects.

Rise Again

A six-week program that helps young people plan what comes next after treatment, with support on accommodations, benefits, skills and setting goals that fit their lives now.
